Qualifications & Prerequisites

There are no specific prerequisites to become a certified coach, although many of our students come to coaching from related disciplines such as consulting, management, education, HR and health.

What is Your Current Situation?

When you talk to us this is the first question we will ask you, because where you are now in your career will influence the the type and length of program best suited to you. All our programs have pathways that enable you to commit up front to the full 125 hours of accredited training, or start small and upgrade as you go along

Where and How Will You Coach?

Coaching is growing rapidly as both a career in and of itself, but also as a powerful tool for change in a range of workplaces and industries. ICA caters for a broad range of career placements. You might choose to set up your own professional practice, in which case our Business Building resources and Business Labs will support you. How Do You Like to Learn?

THE REFLECTIVE PRACTICE MODEL

Our programs are a blend of theory and practice with a reflective feedback cycle built into the program structure. We believe the best learning happens when theoretical concepts are given time to integrate into practice. This means you need to be continually taking the skills you learn in class and using them with clients. Then reflecting on your practice and identifying areas for further development.

Our Schedule Supports Customised Learning

Our classes and Labs are scheduled at set times, and grouped into study streams, with morning, afternoon, evening and weekend time options. Every class or coaching lab you need to attend is scheduled at least once in each study stream. Depending on the pace you decide to move through your program, you can attend all classes and labs in just one study stream or a combination of up to 4 study streams. This allows you to customise your schedule and create a blended theory/practice study path.

Flexibility is Key

The Value of Peer Coaching

Our Graduates consistently rank the ICA Peer Coaching program as one of the highlights of their program. With hundreds of coaches studying at any given time there is always an opportunity to hook up with a Peer Coach and practice the skills and techniques you are learning in class.

The added benefit of the ICA Peer Coaching Program is that it enables you to complete a significant number of hours towards the requirements for an ICF credential.  (100 hours for ACC credential)

In Coaching Specialisation is the Key to Success

You’ll find that most coach training schools cover the same curriculum, especially if they are accredited with the ICF. In order to be accredited you are required to teach core coaching skills such as active listening, powerful questioning, effective feedback, coaching presence and facilitating growth. What is different about ICA is that we don’t teach these concepts within a singular theoretical framework. Rather we embed the skills in a range of theories and models and then help you find your place within that. You might have a leaning towards positive psychology in which case your coaching style would reflect that. Or you might be a systems thinking person, or interested in brain based coaching. Whatever it is, we work with your interests and strengths and help you create a coaching process and style that is unique to you and the people you will be working with.
